Official Mexican Standard (NOM)
The Official Mexican Standards (NOM) are mandatory, that is, they must be complied, no matter what.
There are currently 12 types of measurement instruments subject to legal control whose evaluation is mandatory. With the experience we have in the Bonus I Consulting, we can help you get the certification as soon as possible.

Soon, this standard will be officially valid for its mandatory compliance. It is currently in a revision stage (PROY-NOM-010-SCFI-2017 and PROY-NOM-010-SCFI-2014).

2. Fuel Dispensers

The Official Mexican Standards NOM-005-SCFI-2017 and NOM-185-SCFI-2017 (replacing the norms NOM-005-SCFI-2011 and NOM-185-SCFI-2018) have been recently published with new requirements for compliance by the companies that manufacture gasoline pumps. Although there is a time of grace, given by the same regulation, in which it is granted a time for manufacturers to scale their technology to achieve proper compliance with the standards. The advisable, however, is to have everything ready to go through the proper tests and obtain certification.
Forecourt (box) Controllers and Point of Sales Systems (related to the fuel dispensers) are also currently subject to regulation.
According to the current trend, Tank Monitoring Systems will also enter, in the short term, the mandatory regulation scheme.
The Government practically wants to close, with mandatory certifications, the entire chain of fuel commercialization at any gas station.
All fuel inputs and outputs, as well as all expenses and all income derived from the commercialization of fuels.
Including, in the medium term, the automatic determination of the taxes that the gas station must pay.
3. Gas Meters

Soon, this standard will be officially valid for its mandatory compliance. It is currently in a revision phase (PROY-NOM-014-SCFI-2017).

4. Time Recorders

Although the last current standard for this type of instrument date back to 1997 (NOM-048-SCFI-1997), do not be too confident, because we know that in the "Mexican Normalization Program 2018" includes an update to the requirements, especially to the software protection issue.
5. Taximeters
NOM-007
Although the current standard is NOM-007-SCFI-2003, we know that, for those years, taximeter technology was quite different compared to the new trends for taximeters based on a smart portable devices. And we know that the Mobility Secretariat of Mexico City is currently demanding certificates for all this type of technology.

Perhaps one of the most complex measuring instruments for all that hinders: the guild, manufacturers, institutions, dependencies, regulations, laws, standards, competitors, procedures, reforms, etc....
In addition, it is a world in constant movement, and who does not have the ability to adapt quickly can have a very bitter drink with irreversible consequences, as the loss of customers for not getting through the tests and have the certification on time.

8. National Water Meters

As we know, when a standard is necessary to regulate the use of a measurement instrument, but there is currently no official Mexican regulation (NOM), it is decided to go to international regulatory bodies that already have some standard in this regard. Such is the case for national water meters.
However, it is being managed in the working groups of the General Directorate of Standards (DGN) so that this official Mexican regulation (NOM) is already place..
9. Moisture Meters

For cereal grains and oilseeds.
As we know, when a standard is necessary to regulate the use of a measurement instrument, but there is currently no official Mexican regulation (NOM), it is decided to go to international regulatory bodies that already have some standard in this regard. Such is the case for moisture meters.
However, it is being managed in the working groups of the General Directorate of Standards (DGN) so that this official Mexican regulation (NOM) is already in place.
10. Breath Analyzers

The recent publication of the standard of breathalyzers, in its two parts NOM-214/1-SCFI-2018 and NOM-214/2-SCFI-2018, constitutes an effort by the Mexican government to reduce car accidents due to alcohol consumption.
And, it represents a challenge for the manufacturers of this type of measurement instruments, since for the first time, the certification of this standard will be required, in order to be able to sell.
The standard contains substantial tests to this type of instruments, if you are a manufacturer of these, it is better to be prepared.

Soon, this standard will be officially valid for its mandatory compliance. It is currently in a revision phase: PROY-NOM-215-SCFI-2017.

This List, as shown by its latest publication in 2016 in the Mexican Federation Official Gazette (DOF), is made up of these 12 types of instrument, which at the time were the most critical for its verification.
But we know that this list in the past was smaller, that it has been growing over time, and that it is most likely that new types of measuring instruments are added whose evaluation is mandatory.
Remember that your evaluation is mandatory because its measurement is directly related to a commercial transaction.
But as we see, not only in commercial transactions, but in terms of fines, safety, health and the environment.
